Pharmacy Technician Certification
The Institute for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ICPT) announces the 7th edition of The National Pharmacy Technician Training Program manual published in January 2010.
This new edition addresses comments from pharmacists, technicians, employers and schools who asked for more information on pharmacology, disease states, medical terminology, sterile and nonsterile compounding.
Three new chapters now provide education on common disease states, basic pharmacology and non-sterile compounding.
In addition, this new edition has added information on communicating with patients and healthcare providers, drug diversion and drug disposal. Other changes to the 7th edition include:
- A new workbook and self-assessment questions that allow candidates to review and self-test prior to certification were added.
- Expanded chapters on basic medical terminology, basic anatomy & physiology that now cover additional organ systems, disease states and info on physiology and drugs.
- Expanded sections: patient interaction skills, destruction of controlled substances, most-abused prescription medications, controlled substances table, drug diversion, calculations and medication use in pregnancy.
- Revised chapters: patient communication, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology and sterile compounding.
